Generally, concierge docs must opt-out of Medicare for two years.
And, it is not for everyone.

I agree 100% about this idea, It would be a huge weight lifted off so many good people who are just trying to make it in this world to day.

I saw her interview on Larry King. Absolutely disgusting. She was throwing "facts" out there that meant absolutely nothing, such as her "immune system count" and how she was misdiagnosed with cancer. Nothing made sense. She's basically like that lady from TV who worships Ramtha: she was courted by these docs, and they all make something on the backside for the recognition and publishing, they duped someone so stupid that she can't think for herself, and when challenged on Larry King, she evaded the questions posed and then tried to make the real physicians there look bad like they aren't working with these guys when the answer was already given: They are not respecting the research process and there's more to their stories than they are telling her.

Wow! I just found your blog through a link in a SDN forum, and I have to say I can't argue with your reasoning! I was browbeaten to go into medicine, was clinically depressed during it, have taken 1.5 years off from it to recover & remember than life can feel good again, and am now getting browbeaten to go back to residency. The shitty job market for non-licensed MDs seems to back this. But I admit that while I see the logic of going thru internship & residency, and getting the money that would come after being licensed, I still feel like a beaten dog, being led back to an abusive master. I'm still weighing the pros and cons of going back or maybe even going back to grad school for something I LIKE (ie humanities), but your summary of medicine hit a chord.

If everyone did not have to pay $500 a month, this would put some much more money into the economy!!!! And instead of everyone defaulting and having bad credit, therefore not being able to stimulate the economy EVER!!!!! Why not just forgive student loans and start fresh with HONEST Loan Companies!!! At least this would help millions of people and we would know that it would stimulate the economy instead of going to make the rich, richer like our so called BAILOUT MONEY DID!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for that article Cryn. I somehow missed it and it was an interesting read. After learning that Suzanne Somers was putting out a book I just couldn't hold back. Someone over on SDN commmnted on how this book is an utter slap in the face to the radiologist and surgeon who "cured" her breast cancer. I also happened to find her blog and posted a comment. It was immediately removed within 10 minutes. LOL.

Daedra,
Thanks for your note. I am happy to know that you enjoy this blog as much as I have writing it. It is good to hear that you have come to an informed decision. Just remember that the earlier you decide to get out, the easier it is. If you are having hesitations and second thoughts before even enrolling, they will only grow and grow as you go on. I now look back with envy on those from my college days who bailed on applying to med school or the few who dropped out first term of med school and chose different paths. Congrats on finding your own path and best wishes.

Look on the bright side- at least you guys don't HAVE to do a residency. This way you can at least get a jump start on paying down those loans and not have interest racking up at 7-8% while your medical colleagues are slaving away at minimum wage pay in the hospital. Even so, dental school tuitions are obscenely outrageous. Penn dental is just a couple years away from being will over 100K a year!
